Main Street Morgantown (MSM) is “building a great place” to shop, dine and entertain in downtown Morgantown.

MSM and the City of Morgantown are working together in many ways, including the façade program for downtown businesses. Both MSM and the City of Morgantown provided more than $20,000 for the program.

The façade program will function as a forgivable 50/50 loan, at a maximum of $10,000, over a five year span. Business owners must apply for the loan through MSM and express a need for improvements to the front of their building.

“The largest benefit to beginning this program is the ability for people to invest in their street front appearance. By providing this loan, the community will see results in both districts that are of significant value,” said Executive Director of MSM, Barbara Watkins.

MSM and the City of Morgantown are also working together to beautify the downtown. The City of Morgantown has had a great start with bench additions.

The City of Morgantown was recently awarded the AARP Community Challenge Grant, which is worth $7,500. This grant will be used to place nine benches along High Street.

“Our downtown is the heart and soul of the Morgantown community,” said City of Morgantown Mayor, Bill Kawecki. “Together with Main Street Morgantown, the City is listening and acting upon ways to improve our downtown appearance and showcase how welcoming it truly is.”

MSM is listening to the downtown community and will continue to respond to properly. For more information, visit www.downtownmorgantown.com.
