Defense In Depth is hosting a grand opening for the state’s only Krav Maga studio on Saturday, July 21st. The event will feature several free introductory classes, food and giveaways.

Krav Maga is an Israeli combat system that was developed to help citizens defend themselves during the political unrest of the 1930s. It is rapidly gaining popularity throughout the United States and the world, for both civilians and military/police forces.

Unlike martial arts that focus on forms, rules and competition, Krav Maga is known for its real-world application of quick and effective survival techniques that rely on natural instincts (a catch phrase often associated with Krav Maga is “no rules, no rituals, no nonsense”).

Instructor Jeremy Harris says that Krav Maga is especially appealing to women because it relies less on physical strength and size, and more on simple principles, and maneuvers that are simultaneously defensive and offensive. One hour of the grand opening event will feature a female Krav Maga instructor teaching an introductory women’s empowerment course.

“Krav Maga is not meant to be only for superior athletes,” said Harris. “It’s for any shape, any size, any strength ability and it’s a confidence-builder. The idea is to use fast movements against the weak aspects of an attack using your natural instincts. Women may not want to go toe-to-toe with an attacker and try to fight them, but Krav Maga gives them confidence that they can get out of bad situations.”

Harris is a certified instructor of Krav Maga Worldwide, the world’s leading training program. He will be teaching four classes every week at Defense In Depth, including morning and evening sessions.
