On July 29, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., WV Senators Doug Facemire and Mike Romano will arrive at the West Virginia National Guard Armory in Dunbar, West Virginia with the first tractor-trailer load full of football equipment contributed by high schools and colleges in Florida and Alabama to help our area schools devastated by the recent floods.
Through coordinated efforts of Florida State Head Football Coach Jimbo Fisher, Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban, Florida State Assistant Head Coach Rick Trickett and Alabama Offensive Coordinator Joe Pendry, the Senators will deliver contributed equipment that will help Clay County High School, Elkview Middle, Herbert Hoover, Richwood and Richwood Middle School all field football teams this fall.
The tractor-trailer is scheduled to arrive at the National Guard Armory at 1:00 p.m on Friday, July 29.
“It will be a huge Christmas gift in July for all of the great football teams. I know that the coach and the players alike will be thrilled to know that they can play ball this fall,” Senator Romano said.
The equipment, which includes everything from shoulder pads to cleats, will be distributed by the SSAC with the cooperation of the WV National Guard.
Senator Facemire, whose business donated the trucks and drivers to bring the equipment to West Virginia, said that “it reminds you how blessed we are in West Virginia when these great football coaches – all of whom came from West Virginia – step up to help those of us in need. I am proud to call them friends and even prouder to part of this great effort.”
