The Concord University “Race to Resurface the Track” project recently received two major donations. The Hugh I. Shott, Jr. Foundation awarded $150,000 to Concord University for the project and the June Oblinger Shott Foundation awarded $25,000.
The funds will be used to redesign, renovate and resurface the existing track in its present location in Callaghan Stadium on Concord University’s Athens campus. Estimated cost for the project is $395,000.
The uneven and deteriorated state of the current track’s surface is no longer adequate for competition, training or campus and community use. A new track will benefit not only Concord’s athletic teams, but the entire CU community and surrounding area as well.
The improved track at Concord University will be available for use by Concord students, faculty and staff, the citizens of Athens and the alumni who frequently visit the campus.
The new track will serve as a multi-use venue that will provide for increased training for Mountain Lion athletic teams and offer recreational opportunities to enhance the health and wellness of the Concord campus community and the general public.
