Sheanna M. Spence has been named assistant director for alumni affairs and community relations at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and Marshall Health.
A native of Huntington, Spence has worked for nearly 10 years in development and community outreach, most recently as the director of institutional advancement for Mountwest Community & Technical College.
She started her career in 2006 as a grants program manager and development assistant with The Education Alliance in Charleston. She was then promoted to development director with the organization in 2008.
In 2010, Spence was named the director of development at Mountwest where she oversaw marketing and communications, fundraising, grants and alumni relations functions. Several key accomplishments during her Mountwest tenure included establishing a private scholarship program for the college, spearheading fundraising and community events surrounding the grand opening of the school’s new campus in 2012 and integrating social media in the college’s marketing strategy.
In 2014, her title was changed to director of institutional advancement.
“As a Marshall alumna and Huntington native, I’m thrilled for the opportunity to give back to my alma mater and my hometown through the School of Medicine and Marshall Health,” Spence said. “Health care is a cause that benefits us all.”

Spence has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Marshall University and a master’s in journalism from Ohio University.
She lives in Teays Valley with her husband and 2-year-old daughter.
