Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH) is the first hospital in the Tri-State region and the fourth in the state of West Virginia to earn a three-year term of accreditation in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) from the American College of Radiology (ACR).
MRI of the breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities such as mammography or ultrasound. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is the gold standard in medical imaging.
“This was a very detailed process with rigorous preparation and study that included everyone in our department,” said Nancy Godby, director of Radiology at Cabell Huntington Hospital. “It took everyone working together to make this accreditation possible.”
The ACR accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
“We are focused on providing the highest quality of care for our patients,” said Stacy Davis, assistant director of Radiology at CHH. “We will continue to seek approval every three years and that means we must continually monitor our quality processes to ensure we remain at or above best practices.”
Cabell Huntington Hospital has earned all nine medical imaging accreditations from the ACR including Breast Ultrasound, CT, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and PET, Radiation Oncology, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Breast MRI and Ultrasound.
