As the most recent USA Today “Healthy Cities” reports, Beckley and the greater New River Gorge region of West Virginia have a long and important road ahead when it comes to improving the health of its citizens. Today, it is the profound pleasure to announce that Malorie Polster will be joining the team to promote active lifestyles and greater personal wellness throughout the region. Malorie joins the team as an AmeriCorps VISTA and will serve as the Outreach Coordinator through June of 2017.
A graduate of William and Mary, and native of Cleveland, Ohio, Malorie’s B.S. in Kinesiology and Health Sciences, and Minor in Public Health will add a great deal of experience and expertise to the Active SWV team. Malorie explains that she’s “had a passion for health and wellness for as long as I can remember.” She is excited for the opportunity to motivate and inspire people and for an opportunity to spread her enthusiasm for health and wellness. Malorie intends to dedicate her life’s work to making good health affordable, accessible, and attainable. She strives to ensure that education leads to knowledge, and knowledge leads to positive behavior change.
Specifically, Malorie will be working to recruit volunteers, enhance programs through fitness education, and help to grow Active SWV Kids Running Clubs. This work is directly focused through the mission of Active SWV and is a response to the growing demand for active programming throughout the region. Executive Director, Melanie Seiler says “we’ve been growing rapidly in the last year and new opportunities are reaching new audiences. In partnership with the Coal Heritage Authority, we are excited to have Malorie help increase our capacity to impact health across southern West Virginia. Malorie makes a habit of exceeding expectations and I am very excited to be working with her over the upcoming year.”
