As flood recovery efforts continue, the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce has an update on ways to help:
- Volunteers are needed in the field for a variety of tasks. Erica Mani with the West Virginia Red Cross is helping to coordinate these efforts and can be reached at Erica.mani@redcrosswv.org.
- Clay County is in need of non-perishable food items. They also need cleaning items such as brooms, mops, buckets, tarps, laundry detergent and contractor-size garbage bags. The distribution point for the count is Clay County High School. The West Virginia Chamber and the YWCA are heading to Clay County today with these much-needed supplies.
- Cleaning supplies other than bleach are needed and include shovels, mops, boots, squeeges, buckets and brushes. These supplies are in high demand can be delivered to relief centers or to the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce office at 1624 Kanawha Blvd. East in Charleston.
- Mancan, a staffing agency located in South Charleston, is hiring people to help clean up in flooded communities. The pay is $10/hour and the information flyer can be viewed by clicking here.
- Monetary donations can be made to the Red Cross at (304) 340-3650 or http://www.redcross.org/local/west-virginia or the United Way at http://www.unitedwaycwv.org/.
- The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, has committed itself to directly helping those in need. In the short term, the Foundation will provide immediate relief to those directly affected by the flooding on a screened and as-needed basis. The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation is also committing resources to long-term reconstruction efforts in flood-damaged communities.
