The Monongalia County 4-H Teen Leader’s Rush Run 5-K is excited to be a part of the Morgantown Chamber of Commerce. The Mon County 4-H teens started a scholarship in honor of Sydney Rush, a 4-H member of our organization who tragically lost her life in a car accident three years ago. Through Rush Run and 4-H, our teen leaders focus on community service, 4-H promotion, healthy social activities, and fundraising. In 2014, we held the inaugural Rush Run and it exceeded our expectations. Proceeds from the run are utilized to fund scholarships in Sydney’s name at summer 4-H camps in Monongalia County.
WVU Extension Service 4-H & Youth Development Programs provide educational and community service activities for youth in West Virginia and Monongalia County. Youth who are involved in the program learn life skills through the four fold development of head, heart, hands, and health. 4-H youth learn how to be great leaders, effective communicators, how to live a healthy lifestyle, positive thinking, improving self-esteem, appreciation, and other skills that will follow them throughout their lives. Our goal with Rush Run is to provide scholarships to local youth who would not otherwise be able to attend 4-H camp due to financial limitations so they can benefit from our opportunity. In the future, we hope to also additionally fund higher education scholarships as we annually host this successful event.
This year’s Rush Run 5-K will take place on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater along the Rail Trail in Morgantown, WV. The event opens at 4pm and the race starts at 7pm and we wish to invite you all to come out and witness what 4-H can do for the youth in Monongalia County. We know that these youth will be the future leaders in our communities, and we seek your support so that this year’s event can impact the lives of our youth for the better!
