Families looking for a way to have fun together and learn something, too, can participate in a 3D Design and Printing Workshop Tuesday, January 22, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) in Huntington.
This is the first in a series of Maker Fundamentals workshops for children and adults of all ages who want to learn more about 3D printing and other forms of making.
“For the curious or hesitant, this workshop is an excellent introduction to the world of 3D design and printing,” said Deacon Stone, RCBI Makerspace/STEM Coordinator.
Participants will learn how to use intuitive 3D design software, the basics of preparing their designs for print and how to operate the 3D printers in RCBI’s Maker Vault.
Children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $12 per person, and parent participation is free if working with a child on his or her project. In addition, participants are eligible for an introductory discounted membership in the Maker Vault. Scouts who participate in the workshop are eligible to earn Robotic and STEM Badges.
Other upcoming workshops are Computer-Controlled Cutting, which takes place Saturday, February 2, from 10 a.m. to noon; and Build It Hands-on!, in which participants will create their own hydraulic robotic arm. That event is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, from 10 a.m. to noon.
