Allegheny Insurance Services announced today that The Old Brick Playhouse is the winner of their latest “Keep the Change” match donation program. The organization received $1,000 in a match donation from Allegheny Insurance for their fundraising efforts.
The Old Brick Playhouse was able to receive this match donation after selling bottles of water Allegheny Insurance donated for their spring production, Shrek The Musical. A total of 480 bottles were donated by Allegheny Insurance for The Old Brick Playhouse concession stand, allowing the organization to make a profit upfront of $480 by selling them for $1 each. Those in attendance who purchased the water were then encouraged to join the “Keep the Change” initiative, a unique pay-it-forward concept where purchasers use the water bottle as a good will piggy bank, collecting spare change until it’s full, then return it to the organization. At the end of the three-month period, The Old Brick Playhouse received numerous bottles of spare change from supporters totaling over $1,000 in additional funds.
Missy McCollam, Executive Director of The Old Brick Playhouse, told Allegheny Insurance about the organization’s success with the program. “These funds will go directly towards our Apprentice Program for Middle/High School students,” McCollam explained, “These kids come for educational workshops from September to May, entertain over 16,000 tourists a year via the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad, work Elkins Main Street’s Easter Bunny event, and participate in shows that entertain nearly 4,000 local residents a year.”
“The funds from the water and the change collected by supporters were enough for four scholarships for the Apprentice Program which positively impacts many local families. Because of the match there is now enough funding for eight children to receive scholarships totaling over $2,400,” McCollam continued.
“We absolutely plan to sell the water again and encourage our fans to save their spare change. Our Apprentice Program was once funded by the state and recently that funding was cut, so fundraising with Allegheny Water and Keep the Change will really help us diversify our funding. This spring we will be launching our production of Seussical, and bottled water donated by Allegheny Insurance will be for sale.”
“We have greatly enjoyed seeing our ‘Keep the Change’ initiative take hold in our local communities,” said James W. Wallace, President of Allegheny Insurance. “There are many local groups and organizations that are in need of support; our donated water is a great way to facilitate cost-free fundraising and participate in matching donations as well.”
