West Liberty University received a grant from BB&T recently that will allow it to continue to offer programs through its University Economics Club.
The next luncheon lecture in the ongoing series of educational programs is planned for noon, Wednesday, Nov. 21, when Wheeling native and Fox News Host Chris Stirewalt returns to town to present a program that takes a close look at the post-election climate of the nation. The luncheon program will take place at River City, 1400 Main St., Wheeling.
“It is my pleasure to welcome Chris back to the podium for his thoughts and observations at this important time. Chris talks daily with political headline makers, and our students, alumni and the public will enjoy his presentation,” said Dr. Erik Root, associate professor of political science at WLU and chair of the economics club. “We are grateful to BB&T for its ongoing support.”
Stirewalt is the digital politics editor for Fox News and host of “Power Play” on FOXNEWS.COM. His daily political tip sheet, Power Play, is seen by hundreds of thousands of readers and he also makes daily appearances on the FOX News Channel, including as a panelist on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” and “FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace.”
Prior to joining FOX News, he was a political editor for “The Washington Examiner,” where he wrote an acclaimed twice-weekly column and led political coverage for the newspaper. Stirewalt began his career at the Wheeling Intelligencer. He served as a legal reporter and later, political editor at the Charleston Daily Mail. Stirewalt also was a former political editor for West Virginia Media Holdings.
Stirewalt and his wife, Mary, and their two sons live in Alexandria, Va.
Founded in 2009, the BB&T Center for Economic Philosophy at West Liberty University seeks to engage faculty, students and the public in serious and sustained examination of the free market. In recent years BB&T’s charitable foundation awarded grants to dozens of colleges and universities to support teaching about capitalism.
