August 2010, Kristin Meeks embarked on a new journey that of which took her out of the familiarity of higher education and into the new territory of social media marketing.

With a business that started out part-time for a local restoration company New Way Carpet Cleaning and Crawl Space Solutions quickly turned into servicing 100’s of small to medium sized businesses and nonprofits in the Mid Ohio Valley and beyond with creation, implementation and trainings on new online marketing practices.

Meeks, a WVU and Marietta College graduate, works closely with area chamber of commerce to assess the needs of her clients. Her reach has expanded beyond her home state through the viral ability of the social media sites she uses to not only market her clients businesses but to market her services as well.

“The ability to leverage online platforms to help businesses grow is a very exciting process,” says Meeks, “When a client has an ‘aha’ moment they are eager to learn more about developing their online brand.”

WV Social Media has seen a lot of growth in the past 3 years and just not geographically. “Social media is always changing,” says Meeks. “keeping people educated has become our number one goal and we pride ourselves in doing just that!”

“For 3 years Kristin has helped our organization become a part of the 21st Century through her creativity, energy and enthusiasm,” says Pam Richardson, Artsbridge Office/Database Manager. “Her extensive knowledge and experience with social media and marketing have helped us reach out to members of our community in more ways than we imagined possible.”

In the last year, the company has had the opportunity to employee some of the incoming talent coming out of area colleges, as marketing assistant interns. “We love giving back to our community and this is just another way we try to help prepare future graduates for the ever changing skill set for the competitive job market,” Meeks says.

Always thinking forward, Meeks is bringing two new courses to Marietta College in the fall on entrepreneurship and protecting your personal brand. In addition to her social media boot camps held year around, she is planning on a social media retreat for organizations to come take a break from their day to day business and fully engage in to the strategy, creation and implementation of social media marketing.
