The new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at University Healthcare Berkeley Medical Center, which is slated to open in mid-September, recently received a donation from the Pythian Sisters of West Virginia.
Pat Thompson, a former Grand Chief of WV, earmarked the NICU as her project in honor of her granddaughter, Emily, who was born prematurely 12 years ago. The Pythian Sisters of WV raised $1500 by sponsoring various fund raisers over a period of one year.
Thompson and Emily recently presented the check to representatives of the new NICU at Berkeley Medical Center. A public ribbon cutting/open house will be held on September 10 at 4 pm. The NICU is located on the 8th floor at Berkeley Medical Center.
