With schools restarting for the year, swimming hours are changing at West Virginia’s state parks and forests, including the lake beach swimming area at Tygart Lake State Park.
Swimming pools at West Virginia’s state parks are traditionally open from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends, but adjust operation hours to accommodate employees returning to school.
“Our lifeguards are high school and college students and, as school calendars change, we adjust accordingly,” said Tygart Lake State Park Acting Supt. Jim Browning.
The beach at Tygart Lake reopened this summer after being closed for several years for improvements and has been busy and popular. Tygart Lake’s beach will be open Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 1. The cost for beach swimming access is $4 for adults, $3 for youth.
“We are fortunate to have summer employees willing to return to work weekends after returning to school. They understand the recreational aspects of park operations and we appreciate their dedication,” Browning said.
Browning encourages individuals to consider beach lifeguarding at Tygart Lake for the 2015 season. To contact Browning regarding employment, lake or beach information, call 304-265-6144 or email tygartlakesp@wv.gov.
