Growing up, Annette Gavin Bates wanted to be many things—veterinarian, pediatrician and pilot were all on the list. She soon realized she truly belonged in her local community, working to make it a better place.

Chad Mildren, executive vice president and chief consumer banking officer for United Bank, spent his summers from second grade onward in the Parkersburg Country Club Pro Shop washing golf clubs and caddying. Mildren developed a love of the game and a passion for helping people. The inside of a bank was as familiar as a golf green.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Tim O’Neal learned to be adaptable early in life as his family moved with the military before settling down in West Virginia. His parents valued hard work and discipline, and he was taught that there were no excuses for not trying when it came to education.
