Historic Beverly will be kicking off the holiday season with an old-fashioned twist on Saturday December 6th. Old-fashioned Christmas activities, including a holiday-themed children’s coloring contest, a visit from Victorian Santa Claus, and traditional music and caroling will take place throughout the day at the Beverly Heritage Center. Unique shopping opportunities will be available in the shops of Beverly from 10 am until 5 pm, with new items in stock for the holiday season. Several of the shops in Beverly will be holding a free drawing for merchandise.
Sally Phares, owner of Blossom Village Floral Shop, will be offering a one day only 20% off sale on everything (except consigned items) plus fresh flower orders for the rest of the month, delivered locally. A holiday plant and a fresh flower arrangement will be the prizes for Blossom Village’s drawing. The Market Place offers handcrafted items and foods from members of the Randolph Co. Farmers Market. Their drawing will be for a basket of these assorted local goods.
The newest shop in the Beverly area, located just north of downtown Beverly on the Beverly Pike, is Candlesticks & Thyme, owned by Jay and Becky Weese. They offer primitive and country items, candles, furniture and homespun décor. A $20 gift card will be their drawing prize.
Historic Beverly Antiques features two floors of antiques, collectibles, books and a vintage Christmas room. Enter their drawing for the choice of a vintage glass Christmas tree topper or a new Civil War related book. While in town, don’t miss visiting Beverly’s new restaurant, Beverly Bistro. The menu features pork, seafood and steaks, with fine dining at reasonable prices.
Denise Heckel will be the featured local artist this year. Denise will be showcasing and selling her handmade jewelry and pottery in the Beverly Heritage Center from 10 am to 5 pm.
The coloring contest is for children in grades K-5. Entries can be completed at the Beverly Heritage Center from 10 am to 12 pm, with crayons supplied. The top winner of the contest will be announced at 1 pm. First prize is a youth-sized BHC tee shirt, and every entry receives a treat. Victorian Santa Claus will also be in attendance to hear children’s Christmas wishes and pass out candy.
In keeping with the historic theme and holiday spirit, the Beverly Heritage Center will be hosting the Mountain Winds woodwind quartet, featuring Richard Evans, Morris Kittle, Linda Wolfersheim, and Lynn Serba. They will be performing traditional 19th Century Christmas music from 10 am to 12 pm, and at 1 pm the public is welcome to join them, and the AmeriCorps team for caroling.
The Beverly Presbyterian Church will host its annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon between 10 am and 2 pm. The church will serve homemade soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts and sell holiday gift baskets and baked goods.
