Cabell Huntington Hospital has been named a Blue Distinction Center Plus for Spine Surgery® from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield West Virginia for demonstrating better overall quality of care and patient results in spine surgery.
The Blue Distinction Centers Plus for Specialty Care® program is a national designation awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise and efficiency in delivering quality specialty care.
“We are very proud to receive the Blue Distinction Center Plus designation,” said Anthony Alberico, MD, FACS, neurosurgeon at Cabell Huntington Hospital and chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “Our back and spine team has worked hard to provide quality, comprehensive spinal surgery services.”
By earning the designation, Cabell Huntington Hospital has demonstrated:
- An established program, performing required annual volumes for certain procedures
- Appropriate experience of its care team
- Full facility accreditation by a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)-deemed national accreditation organization
- Adherence to evidence-based clinical care measures and guidelines
- A comprehensive quality management program
“In order for us to achieve the Blue Distinction Center Plus status, we have put an emphasis on outcome and appropriate state-of-the-art measured care,” said Alberico. “We have fewer readmissions and fewer complications than non-designated hospitals.
