Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau welcomes the 2012 WV Games

The Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to welcome the fourth annual WV Games this Labor Day weekend.

The WV Games promotes both physical fitness and friendly competition, and is the largest collection of sanctioned sports and sporting events in West Virginia.

More than 150 athletes will compete in events including beach volleyball, Jiu Jitsu and submission wrestling, zumbathon, a strength challenge with Phil Pfister, cornhole tournaments, beach wrestling, and a powerlifting/bench press challenge.

To kick off the weekend’s games, athletes and event organizers will join the community during the Moses Automotive Group Live on the Levee concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. The Voodoo Katz and Greensky Bluegrass will close out the last of the summer concert series.

Sporting events will get started at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, with the annual Charleston Distance Run.  Most events are held on Magic Island or nearby locations. Pennsylvania Avenue to Delaware will be closed during the WV Games.

Charleston Distance Run (State Capitol) – 7:30 a.m.

West Virginia State Cornhole Tournament (Magic Island) – 9 a.m.

Beach Volleyball (Magic Island) – 9 a.m.

“End of Summer Bash” Zumbathon (Kanawha Blvd. in front of Magic Island) – 10 a.m.

Martial Arts Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Magic Island) – 11 a.m.

Beach Wrestling (Magic Island) – 11 a.m.

Strength Challenge with Phil Pfister (Magic Island) – 11 a.m.

Powerlifting/Bench Press Challenge (Magic Island) – 12:30 p.m.
