As the 2014 school year winds down, West Liberty University will offer its students a chance to enjoy a variety of activities during its Hollywood on the Hilltop Celebration, April 21 – 26, including a visit from one of the funniest channels on television.
The week kicks off with the headline act, Comedy Central campus tour, 8 p.m., Monday, April 21 in College Hall. Starting this winter, “Comedy Central on Campus” began taking favorite rising stars to campuses nationwide on its fifth college tour, according to its website. WLU is proud to be one of the stops on the tour.
“We are pleased to bring this national act to the Hilltop campus and excited to present our students with a whole week of fun and memories. Comedy Central will present its rising stars on Monday evening and the students are thrilled,” said Kate Billings, campus activities coordinator.
Since Billings was hired in January, she and Jim Compston, area coordinator for residential programming, have been focused on increasing student activities and improving the West Liberty University student experience.
The Comedy Central Campus Tour is open to students, faculty and staff only, however.
Special activities are planned for the entire week and are designed to include something for every student, Compston said.
Tuesday students will enjoy a Zombie Day, with an 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Zombie Obstacle Course on Hoge Quadrangle and a 7 p.m., evening movie “Zombieland” in the College Union Ballroom followed by an 8 p.m, Zombie Dodgeball in Blatnik Gym.
Wednesday will be Hollywood Action Day, with inflatables on the quad and a “Cliffhanger” climbing wall. Other events include a Knight’s Tale Joust and a Space Jam. The day ends with an Animal House Toga Party in the College Union and Blatnik Gym.
Thursday offers a Throwback/Retro Day with a variety of student activities during the school day and ending with a screening of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie on the quad followed by a bonfire, complete with s’mores.
Friday completes the student-only activities for the week and is themed around Hollywood. There will be a costume contest in the College Union, a Make Your Own Hollywood Star craft in the Alumni Room and an 8 p.m. showing of a Drive-In Movie, “Anchorman 2” in the Beta Hall parking lot.
Saturday, April 26, concludes the Hollywood on the Hilltop themed activity week with a very special day for family and friends. The theme is Disney and students are encouraged to invite their families and friends in for the daylong celebration.
Events include crafts for children, video games, treats and a 1 and 3 p.m. Hilltopper softball game and cookout. Saturday ends with a children’s film, “Frozen” on the quad with a campfire and s’mores.
