Concord University will host the annual Region I Mathematics Field Day on the Athens campus on Saturday, March 29, 2014. The Region I Field Day competition will include students in grades 4-12 from Mercer, Raleigh, Summers, Monroe, Wyoming and McDowell counties.
Each student in grades 10 through 12 participating in the competition is eligible for a $500, one-time, non-renewable scholarship to Concord University. First, second and third place in the individual competition in grades 10 through 12 will be eligible for additional scholarships to Concord University based on placement. These will be renewable for eight consecutive semesters if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA (grade point average.) A student must register with the Office of Admissions during the event to qualify for scholarships.
Concord will also host the Fourth Annual Science Open House on March 29 in conjunction with the mathematics competition. The open house will feature demonstrations and activities in astronomy, chemistry, geology, biology and physics for K-12 teachers, students and their parents. Most open house activities will take place from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the Science Building, where schedules will be posted.
