Preparing income tax returns has become an annual volunteer activity for Concord University business students.

“My students are busy preparing tax returns as part of their VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program,” Dr. Cynthia Khanlarian, associate professor of accounting, said.

“So far, they have prepared and filed electronically, over 150 returns. Most returns are for refunds of taxes withheld.  The refunds total over $150,000,” she reported on March 8.

The VITA program offers free tax returns preparation and electronic filing for anyone in the community who makes less than $55,000 per year.

Tax preparation assistance will be available on the Athens campus on Monday afternoons from 3:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. through the end of March. The service will also be provided on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22 and Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.  The hours will be: Fridays, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
