Senior Visual Communication Design students are once again offering design services for the campus community and beyond, serving non-profits that cannot afford paid services.
Possible projects may include logos, posters, brochures, book covers, presentations, animation, video, signage, and websites.
“The program is free, however, participants should expect to contribute to a professional design process, including team meetings, design reviews, and prompt delivery of content. This is part of the classwork as our students prepare to graduate and it’s a great way to get real world experience,” said Jim Haizlett, associate professor of art who teaches the upper-level class.
Students will work on everything from brand design concept to a complete brand makeover.
“I hope to gain valuable real-world experience from the opportunities that will provide for us. It will provide me the experience of working with clients and as a team. For any graphic artist, it is essential that we have the communications skills to not only work with the client, but to work well with our team members,” said Kelsey Hayden, who plans on moving to Washington, D.C. after commencement to pursue her graphic design career. Hayden is from Charles Town, W.Va.
“My two main goals post-graduation are to do design work in the world of game or animation concept art, and I’d also like to eventually do design work with reputable, non-profit LGBT+ organizations. This assignment can absolutely open a few good starting doors to the big, intimidating world of professional design work, so I think it’s a great way for me and the other students to showcase what we’re capable of and demonstrate our individual talents for public consumption,” said Lucas Shaver who is from Parkersburg, W.Va.

Those who are selected will be notified shortly thereafter if the project has been selected for student work.
