The Kanawha Valley Friends of Old-Time Music and Dance (FOOTMAD) is proud to present Floorplay, from Charlottesville, Va., at its dance on Nov. 16, 2012.
The event kicks off with dance instructor Will Martin, also from Charlottesville, teaching the basic moves of contra and square dancing at 7:30 p.m. Contra dancing is a form of folk dance similar to square dancing. Modern contra, square dances, and waltzes continue from 8 -11 p.m.
Floorplay consists of Rya Martin on piano, Paul Rosen on mandolin, fiddle, accordion and Aaron Lamb on drums. They bring knowledge and skill in a variety of traditional music styles including Appalachian old-time, French Canadian, klezmer and swing.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Columbia Gas Transmission Auditorium, 1700 MacCorkle Ave SE. No experience or partner is needed and soft-soled shoes are recommended. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for students and free for children under 13.
