Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin joined ACT officials today to recognize West Virginia achievements in college and career readiness.
Honorees include a high school senior, a high school, and a community and technical college.
Shania Clack, a senior from Mount View High School in Welch, received the Student Readiness Award and a scholarship. Ravenswood High School received the College and Career Transition Award for its service to a community in economic crisis, with a highly regarded agricultural education program. West Virginia Northern Community College in Wheeling received the Career Preparedness Award for its efforts providing dual enrollment classes to high school juniors and seniors in six West Virginia counties.
“Five years ago when I became governor, we started down a path to improve and strengthen West Virginia’s education system,” Gov. Tomblin said. “Today I am pleased to join representatives from the ACT to recognize those who excel at meeting those important goals. With your continued help, our state’s students can find success in any career path they choose.”
The event is part of the fourth annual ACT College and Career Readiness Campaign. One exemplary student in each participating state will receive an academic scholarship from ACT. One student, one high school, one community college and one employer will be chosen from among the state exemplars for national recognition in June.
“For the fourth year in a row, participation in the ACT College and Career Readiness Campaign continues to grow,” said Scott Montgomery, ACT vice president for policy, advocacy and government relations. “We are proud to recognize the notable achievements of the students, educators, and employers who lead exceptional efforts to improve their schools and workplaces every day.”
