Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin was named chairman of the Southern States Energy Board at the organization’s 54th annual meeting held in Mobile, Alabama.
“It’s a privilege to be part of the Southern State Energy Board leadership team, and I look forward to continue working with governors and legislators from across our region to ensure a brighter future for our states,” Gov. Tomblin said. “This is an exciting time in our nation’s energy industry, and I’m confident that by working together, we can establish a strategy that strengthens our nation’s energy sector and gives us the opportunity to compete on the global stage.”
Prior to being named chairman, Gov. Tomblin delivered the keynote address during the meeting’s opening session, where he highlighted the importance of working together to achieve energy independence, the potential impacts of the EPA’s proposed carbon emission regulations and stressed the importance of balancing environmental protection with supporting economic growth.
The Southern State Energy Board is a nonprofit organization, whose members include governors and state legislators from sixteen southern states, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virginia Islands, and a presidential appointee. The board is dedicated to enhancing economic development opportunities in the Southern region through innovative investments in energy and environmental policies, programs and technologies.
