Industrial Resources, Inc., promoted Phillip E. Burnside to president, and he will begin his position June 1.

Burnside started his career with Industrial June 9, 2008, as a project engineer and was promoted to vice president in October 2008.

“Being promoted to president of Industrial Resources, Inc., is a true honor,” Burnside said.  “I feel very fortunate and look forward to working with the people of this organization who are the primary resources that make us as successful as we are in the industry.”

Burnside worked for American Electric Power, Martinka Mine #1, in Fairmont from 1975 to 1977 in various United Mine Workers of America classified positions.

He worked from 1977 to 1991 as different management titles ranging from a safety director, shift foreman, mine foreman and longwall coordinator with BethEnergy Mines, Inc., Mine #108, in Upshur County.  In 1991, BethEnergy Mines sold their coal assets to Rauer Coal Corporation, and Burnside was appointed to manager of operations for the next five years.

In 1996, he took on the challenge of starting an underground coal mine company in Upshur County named Burn Coal, Inc., and was the owner, operator and CEO for the next 12 years.

He graduated from Fairmont State College in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and from West Virginia University in 1984 with a master’s degree in safety.

“As a turn key industrial engineering and fabrication facility, we have to adapt to the changing market conditions,” Burnside said.  “Industrial Resources, Inc., has provided a service to the coal industry for the past 70 years and will continue to be a top provider as needed.  We have the knowledge and expertise to expand our customer base to include our services for the oil and gas industry, transshipment ports, barge loading facilities, aggregate businesses and overland material handling systems.  We are proud of what we do and what we have accomplished over the years.  We look forward to the opportunities and challenges of the future.”
