Since 1947, Electronic Specialty Company has provided systems and services for safety, security and critical communications supporting businesses and people in our communities.
Roughly 5 percent of babies born in 2017 in West Virginia—the most vulnerable members of these communities—suffered from neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), a withdrawal syndrome that occurs after prenatal exposure to drugs is discontinued suddenly at birth. The highest incidence rate of NAS was 10.66 percent in Lincoln County.
“West Virginia is in the midst of a child welfare crisis, and the prevalence of NAS is at the forefront of our issues,” says Bill Crouch, cabinet secretary of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. “We have seen a 46 percent increase in the number of children we take into custody, and 84 percent of all child protective service cases involve drug use. Children across our state have suffered more than anyone because of the drug epidemic, and these NAS numbers quantify this tragedy.”
Electronic Specialty Company applauds Thomas Health Systems’ recent investments to provide an addiction treatment center within Saint Francis Hospital. Thomas is investing its own resources to help our community by providing proactive services to address our community’s addiction problems.
According to hospital executives, this investment is a proactive approach designed to help keep our most needy from slipping through the cracks, provide a continuum of care to affect a positive outcome and provide an access point for people to seek treatment.
“This is in response to the fact we have a big, big problem,” says Dan Lauffer, CEO of Thomas Health Systems. “Our hospital has to step up to the plate and address this issue.”
Lauffer is requesting supporters of this program make contributions to The Thomas Health Foundation. This addiction treatment center is an opportunity to step up and assist. Please review the merits of this project and consider making your own donation to help Saint Francis assist our most vulnerable.
Gifts may be made to The Foundation for Thomas Health and applied to The Addiction Healing Center at Saint Francis.
