Special guest for the May Generation Charleston Gain Prosper Succeed (GPS) breakfast is Charleston Area Alliance President and CEO Matt Ballard. The event will be held at the Charleston Area Alliance at 8 a.m., Wednesday, May 11.
Before joining the Alliance, Ballard served as the Executive Director of the Hatfield-McCoy Trails, a 500-mile multi-use trail system, operating in nine southern West Virginia counties. Prior to his work at Hatfield-McCoy, Ballard served for two years as the Special Assistant for Project Management and Policy Analysis to the WV Department of Tax and Revenue’s Cabinet Secretary during the Bob Wise administration.
Ballard has an undergraduate degree in nursing from Alderson-Broaddus College and a graduate degree in public administration from West Virginia University. He was selected in 2000 as one of four Burke Scholars with the West Virginia Legislature and spent nine months working for the Senate Majority Leader.
Ballard serves on several board of directors, including the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives and the Governor’s Disaster Recovery Board.
When Ballard is not working to move the Kanawha Valley community forward, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing pick-up basketball with friends.
“Success is a journey, not a destination. As young professionals, we often aspire to achieve much more than what we are doing today,” Generation Charleston chair Nina Shell said. “This series has been created to inspire us and educate us. We have hand selected some of Charleston’s top business professionals to share the story of their personal journey and provide real-world tips for career success.”
GPS is a series of breakfast forums providing Generation Charleston members access and intimate conversations with some of the Kanawha Valley’s top business leaders. Guests share career experiences, leadership advice and offer fresh perspectives on timely topics.
Attendance is limited to 15 Generation Charleston members to encourage a comfortable and candid conversation.
