Kanawha County Commission, Kanawha Valley Tourism and Kanawha County Parks and Recreation are pleased to open a new playground and Mountaineer Mile track at Meadowood Park Saturday, July 12 at 10 a.m.
The organizations encourage the public to come out and enjoy the upgraded amenities. All three county parks
are getting new playgrounds including Coonskin Park and Pioneer Park.
The playground at Meadowood includes two new structures for kids of all ages, additional free standing
play equipment, two covered benches for parents to utilize when watching their children and a swing set
with ADA compliant and accessible swings.
The location of the playground was also moved to the back of the park to allow for more parking and easier
river access at the old location. The upgrades are part of an ongoing effort to invest in local recreation infrastructure, ensuring that children across Kanawha County have access to safe, high-quality outdoor spaces.
“Summer is the perfect time to open this new playground that is fun and accessible for all children and families. We’re excited to share it with you all,” says Kanawha County Commission President Ben Salango.
Commissioner Lance Wheeler says this project is about more than just new equipment.
“It’s about creating spaces where kids can be kids and families can connect,” he says. “We’re investing in our parks so children across Kanawha County have a safe, fun place to play and so people of all ages have opportunities to stay
active and live healthy lifestyles. This is just one part of our broader commitment to building healthier,
stronger communities.”
Commissioner Natalie Tennant says they want kids to get outside and play.
“This new play area is beautiful. You can also take a stroll on the new Mountaineer Mile track,” she says. “It’s great for the whole community.”
