West Virginia State University (WVSU) and the West Virginia State University Foundation (WVSU Foundation) today received a $75,000 donation from The Kelly Miller Foundation, Inc. to create an endowed scholarship fund for students.
The donation completes a previous $92,000 Kelly Miller Foundation commitment made in support of West Virginia State University’s first capital campaign and will establish and endow four student scholarships.
Through the donation, WVSU students from Harrison, Lewis, Barbour, Taylor, Braxton, Doddridge, Clay or Upshur counties in West Virginia may receive the scholarships.
The former Kelly Miller School, located in Clarksburg, provided quality educational training to African-American youth of Harrison and surrounding counties until the public school system was integrated in 1956. Kelly Miller School graduates have excelled in professional, business, military, managerial, sports, arts and technical fields throughout the world. The Kelly Miller Foundation is comprised of alumni and friends of the Kelly Miller School.
