On April 9, 2016, Lewisburg, WV hosts the Lewisburg Chocolate Festival and downtown turns into a 3-block chocolate tasting emporium. In the morning, you can ease the chocolate consumption guilt by participating in the 10K Chocolate Chase or get a head start and have chocolate covered bacon at the Chocolate Brunch. The tastings of chocolate run the gamut from gourmet like Dark Chocolate Pot de Crème’ with Yuzu Citrus Cream and Triple Chocolate Verrine to traditional favorites like hot fudge cake. The chocolate fountain, where you choose your own treat to dunk, is popular with children, but there are more adult oriented delights as well, such as Chocolate Mini Martinis and Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout.
The event includes a chocolate bake-off to decide the best homemade treats and demonstrations by The Greenbrier’s professional chefs. Sign up to be one of the participants in the hands-free chocolate mousse eating contest or just hang out and enjoy live music and street performers. Be sure to say hi to Mayor Manchester, you can’t miss him; he’s dressed as Willie Wonka. Finally, end your day at one of the many local restaurants offering chocolate inspired entrees and desserts or catch a free showing of the movie “Chocolate” at the Lewis Theatre.
The chocolate tastings are available from 10 to 3 pm, each tasting is a ticket and one tickets is $1. The tickets are available for purchase prior to and day of.
