Local WVU Faculty Members Promoted

The staff of the West Virginia University Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center Eastern Division is pleased to announce several faculty promotions that became effective July 1, 2014. Promotions are merit based and have requirements in teaching, service to community and school, as well as scholarship and research.

K. Joy Buck, PhD, RN, was promoted to the rank of Professor in the WVU School of Nursing. In addition to teaching graduate level nursing students, she is the Principal Investigator for Bridges to Healthy Transitions and the associated research projects. She received her MSN in Community-based Chronic Care in 1997 from George Mason University, a PhD in Research and Policy History from the University of Virginia in 2005. In 2007, Dr. Buck completed a two-year post-doctoral research fellowship in the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania. Both her pre- and post-doctoral research training were funded by the National Institutes of Health. Since joining the WVU faculty, Dr. Buck has successfully obtained funding from a variety of sources including the National Institutes of Health to support Bridges to Healthy Transitions projects.  Bridges research projects focus on structures, processes and transitions that impact the care and quality of life of under-served and medically complex populations, engaging both the community and most of the health disciplines.

Jonathan M. Kline, PharmD, CACP, BCPS, CDE, was promoted to Associate Professor for the WVU School of Pharmacy. Dr. Kline graduated from Ohio Northern University with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2006 and completed a residency in Pharmacy Practice at WVU Hospitals, Morgantown in 2007. He is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist, a certified diabetes educator, a certified anticoagulation provider, and in 2013 completed the prestigious Academic Leadership Fellows Program by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr. Kline has been employed by WVU since 2007 and works at Harpers Ferry Family Medicine, providing counsel to physicians and patients on medications and at Jefferson Medical Center consulting on patients. He also teaches WVU School of Pharmacy students rotating through the Eastern Panhandle, as well as WVU School of Medicine students and residents with the WVU Rural Family Medicine Program. He has received several awards including Hospital Preceptor of the Year and Teacher of the Year.

William Lewis, MD, FAAFP, was promoted to Associate Professor for the WVU School of Medicine. Dr. Lewis graduated from WVU School of Medicine and completed his family medicine residency at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg in 2002. He also completed a rural family medicine fellowship at Harpers Ferry in 2006. He is board certified in Family Medicine and is the clinical director for Harpers Ferry Family Medicine where he also sees patients. Dr. Lewis also volunteers as a sideline physician for the Washington High School football team, interprets ImPACT concussion tests for local high schools, and is a medical volunteer at Freedom’s Run.  He is an active member of the medical staff at Jefferson Medical Center and participates on many WVU committees.

The WVU Health Sciences Center Eastern Division is located in Martinsburg, WV. It is a regional campus for West Virginia University that has been hosting health sciences graduate students since 2005.
