Gail D’Onofrio, M.D., M.S., professor and chair of the department of emergency medicine at Yale School of Medicine, will present a workshop on addressing opioid use disorder in the emergency room and creating strategies for continuity of care at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, in the River Park Hospital gymnasium.
The event, sponsored by Marshall Health, is for health care organizations, health care providers, nurses and public health partners with an interest in improving how to help patients with substance abuse disorders.
D’Onofrio is professor and inaugural chair of the department of emergency medicine at Yale School of Medicine and Physician-in Chief of Emergency Services at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She is internationally known for her work in alcohol and other substance use disorder (SUD) and gender variations in women with ischemic heart disease research. For the past 25 years she has developed and tested empirically emergency department interventions for SUDs, serving as principal investigator on multiple RO1 grants, and most recently is a lead investigator on a multi-site trial related to implementation science and opioid use disorder.
