Six Headline Books authors will sign books from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the annual Winter Blues Farmers Market at the Morgantown Event Center, 3 Waterfront Place. Children’s authors will read during a story time for kids.
Reading will be:
Barbara Myers and Lily Hamilton of Morgantown, authors of Lily & Nana, a children’s picture book about the everyday things the pair likes to do together. Myers, a retired early childhood educator, saw the genre of children’s literature lacked books on intergenerational subjects. Lily & Nana won a Silver Mom’s Choice Award for Best Children’s Picture Book Crossing Generations and was named an Award Winning Finalist for Best Children’s Hard Cover Non-Fiction by the International Book Awards. Reader’s Favorite Book Awards announced it is their silver choice for Best Pre-School book.
Melissa Ridenour of Morgantown penned What Would You Do? A Kid’s Guide to Staying Safe in a World of Strangers to instruct young readers in a gentle question-and-answer format that shows them how to make good decisions about their safety, empowering children in a non-threatening way to take a proactive role in staying safe from predators and harm. It was named a Finalist in the Parenting/Family: Reference category of the USA “Best Books 2011” Awards.
Melinda Chambers of Romney holds four prestigious Mom’s Choice Awards for her children’s books. Her newest title, And We Helped!, won Silver for children’s picture books about cooking and food. It is written with her grandchildren and illustrated with photos of them baking together. In the category of Best Children’s Books—Values & Life Lessons Chambers’ books, We Are Whooo We Are and Fraidy Cat, won Gold, and The Day The Snapdragons Snapped Back, won the Silver Award. The Mom’s Choice Awards® is an awards program that recognizes authors, inventors, companies, parents and others for their efforts in creating quality family-friendly media, products and services. Melinda is regularly a featured author at Book Expo America in New York.
Don Stansberry’s debut in adult fiction, Secret Blood, was an International Book Award Finalist for Best E-Book: Mystery/Thriller/Adventure. From the Beatles, Central Park, and Cleveland to a TV evangelist and the Oval Office, this remarkable story about the CIA cloning Jesus Christ hits home with real questions about current technology and the men who control it. Headline Books has also published Stansberry’s four award-winning children’s titles, Crusty; Inky, Oglebee and the Witches; Inky and the Missing Gold and Skipping Through the ABCs of History. Stansberry lives in Vienna, Wood County.
Cindy Bandy O’Brien wrote Agitated to help children relate to everyday situations that push their buttons and learn some strategies they can use to deal with unpleasant feelings. The book won a Mom’s Choice Silver Award for Best Juvenile Level 1 Ages 5-8 Self-Improvement.
Colleen Driscoll of Harrison County wrote Piper the Elf Trains Santa to teach children that they can get exercise without even knowing it – just by playing their favorite active games. On Saturday, children can hear the audio book version and the song that Driscoll wrote. All her children play an instrument so they wrote and perform the song.
