Twenty-four teams from high schools and 24 teams from middle schools throughout the state will test their knowledge in math and science as they compete for the championship at the 29th annual West Virginia Regional Science Bowl, co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory and West Virginia University (WVU).
The Science Bowl is a fast-paced quiz-style tournament, with round-robin and double-elimination competition rounds. Middle school teams will compete on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, followed by high school teams on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020. Both competitions will be held at the Mountainlair on WVU’s Downtown Campus.

The national events encompass several days of science activities, sightseeing and competitions. The teams that advance to the double-elimination rounds will earn a monetary prize for their school. Top teams also receive trophies and other awards, including science trips for the high school teams.
