Aided by local coach and running enthusiast Paul Hodges, Pipestem Resort State Park has added another way to get your Vitamin “N:” nature, that is. Walkers, runners, joggers and bicyclists now have 5K and 10K routes permanently marked along park roads.

The routes have been marked temporarily for the Pumpkin Run, which has been held on the park the fourth Saturday in October for the past 37 years, attracting 88 participants this year. Park Activities Coordinator Kim Hawkins said, “It seemed logical to use the race route to assist all park guests with tracking their mileage any time of the year. With our 30 MPH speed limit, it makes a much safer environment to walk, run, or ride than many of our local public roads. It’s great when we can add more outdoor recreation to our list of ‘can-do’ activities at Pipestem Resort.”

A course map is posted on the Pipestem Resort State Park website www.pipestemresort.com, under Maps/Locate. The title is Walk/Run 5K/10K Guide.

“Anyone can download the map to a home computer and print it on standard paper or pick one up at McKeever Lodge front desk,” Hawkins said.

For those wanting an even safer and more peaceful setting, Pipestem also invites guests to go “wogging” on the golf course cart paths during early morning and late evening hours when the courses are unused by golfers.
