The saying goes, “Disaster strikes when you least expect it.” Make sure your small business is prepared for the unexpected by joining the West Virginia District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration and SCORE for a free, 60-minute disaster training session Friday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the Robert H. Mollohan Research Center in Fairmont, WV. FEMA participates in the event by offering a 30-minute scenario-based exercise.
SBA and SCORE host discussions on planning for disasters and highlights SBA’s disaster program. SBA’s disaster program is the Administration’s largest direct loan program, and the only SBA program available to entities other than small businesses. SBA is responsible for providing affordable, timely and accessible financial assistance to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and nonprofit organizations in response to local, regional and national disasters.
FEMA’s 30-minute scenario-based exercise helps small businesses begin or improve their preparedness processes. The exercise provides the tools and resources for small businesses to go back to the office and conduct their own preparedness training with their staff.
“Roughly 40 to 60 percent of small businesses never reopen their doors following a disaster,” said Judy McCauley, West Virginia District Director. “SBA is offering this workshop because we want to help small businesses prepare for disaster before they happen but to also offer information on where to turn amidst disastrous times.”
The Robert H. Mollohan Research Center is located at 1000 Galliher Drive, in Fairmont. This is a free event but seating is limited. Register today at www.wvscore.org.
