On Sunday, May 25, U.S. Senate nominee Shelley Moore Capito will serve as the Honorary Starter of the 2014 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway,  part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

For decades, the Coca-Cola 600 has been the biggest Memorial Day Weekend celebration in America, and this year’s race will feature a pre-race show honoring veterans and active duty military personnel. Master Sergeant Cedric King, an esteemed military hero, will serve as Grand Marshal for the race.

“NASCAR is one of America’s greatest traditions, and it is a tradition beloved by many of us West Virginians. I am thrilled to be a part of the famed Coca-Cola 600, and more importantly, to be a part of the nation’s largest celebration of the brave men and women who serve our country in the Armed Forces,” said Shelley Moore Capito. “Our veterans and active duty military personnel deserve a lifetime of gratitude and respect. This wonderful Memorial Day celebration is just one small way we can say thank you to the American heroes who fight for our safety and our cherished freedoms.”

Shelley Moore Capito is scheduled to wave the green flag signifying the start of the race at 6:19pm ET on Sunday, May 25. Members of the media interested in speaking with Shelley at the race should contact Chuck Flannery at 304-590-4700 or cflannery@capitoforsenate.com.
