Six students and two program advisors will represent West Virginia at the national Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador Summit in Chicago, IL. The summit is expecting participation from 157 students and 95 Program Advisors representing 45 states from across the county. The Student Ambassador Summit is a multi-day, intensive and fun training for Fuel Up to Play 60’s Ambassadors from July 22-25, 2015.

Inspired and led by youth, Fuel Up to Play 60 empowers students to eat healthy, be active and make positive changes in their schools and communities. The program – created in partnership with the American Dairy Association Mideast and the NFL, in cooperation with USDA – is in over 73,000 schools nationwide.

“The Student Ambassador Summit is an exciting leadership opportunity for students who are committed to a healthy lifestyle,” said June Wedd, Vice President of School Marketing for the American Dairy Association Mideast. “All of our Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassadors have made great strides in the movement for a healthier community.”

The West Virginia participants are: Jennifer Anderson (State Ambassador program Advisor), Barboursvile; Reagan Blasher, Fairmont; Jillian Freeman (State Ambassador), Barboursvile; Chrissy Jones (Program Advisor), Fairmont; Laynie Nuzum, Fairmont; Miranda Pate, Hurricane; Krysten Tackett, MacArthur; Olivia Thurman, Barboursvile.

The Fuel Up to Play 60 program engages youth directly as grassroots leaders to increase access to healthy foods and 60 minutes of physical activity at school. In the coming year, these students and advisors will lead their schools in making healthy, sustainable changes and represent the program at local events, round table discussions, and more!

The Summit participants will also have the opportunity to meet their peers, learn leadership skills and help shape the program for the 2015-2016 school year. Students will also meet NFL players and participate in exciting events including physical activity drills and an ultimate cook-off with their peers.
