Saturday, November 29 is Small Business Saturday, a day to celebrate small businesses and all they do for their communities. Please join the Beverly On Trac program and other organizations across the region in supporting small businesses by shopping locally.
This month Beverly welcomes a new locally owned restaurant, the Beverly Bistro, to its downtown historic district. Owner Chef Jason Talbott has put together a menu of local farm fresh ingredients with a European flare. When asked about small businesses and their role in the community, Chef Talbott stated, “small businesses are the backbone of a town, the money spent here stays here.”
Small Business Saturday started in 2010 to encourage shoppers to support their locally owned businesses during the holidays. With the increase in Internet shopping and the rise in big box stores, Small Business Saturdays was created to help promote small businesses. Economic consultants calculate that more than two-thirds of the capital spent at local businesses remains and circulates within the local economy.
The West Virginia ON TRAC and Main Street Program works with local communities throughout the state. The program focuses on economic revitalization of historic central business districts. This revitalization of local downtown and neighborhood commercial districts capitalizes on both the history and unique assists of each community. The program aims for thriving economies and bustling downtown businesses, the streets filled with residents and visitors.
