Stonewall Resort State Park’s 370-plus slip marina will open for the season Saturday, April 5, 2014. Stonewall Jackson Lake, near Weston in Lewis County, is 26 miles long and has 82 miles of shoreline, making it the second largest lake in West Virginia.
“The marina has various models of watercraft available for rental, as well as a resort-owned lake excursion boat,” said Steve Ludwig, director of sales and marketing at Stonewall Resort. “Water enthusiasts have all they need for the perfect lake getaway.”
Ludwig said both 20-foot and 30-foot boat slips are still available for rent. The marina offers boaters all the essentials for spending time on the water. Gas, food, beverages and fishing supplies can be purchased in the marina store located on the dock. Day-use guests have access the marina’s public boat launch. The Resort also rents a variety of watercraft, like pontoon, aqua cycles and fishing boats.
“Stonewall Jackson Lake is also known as one of the best bass, crappie and muskie fishing impoundments in the state,” Ludwig said. “The lake’s secluded coves, fingers and open waterways provide guests with boating and fishing opportunities and solitude.”
New bass and musky fishing regulations are in effect for Stonewall Jackson Lake in 2014, allowing anglers to keep a daily creel limit of six bass, only one of which may be longer than 18 inches. Also, there is a 52-inch minimum size limit on muskies. Both of these regulations are designed to enhance fishing opportunities at this popular lake.
Resort visitors also have access to kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddle boards. The Little Sorrel, the resort’s bi-level, 100-passenger excursion boat, offers lake tours beginning April 5 with excursions slated throughout the spring, summer and fall.
“Whether fishing for bass, gliding through the water in a kayak or soaking up the sun and scenery on a leisurely cruise, Stonewall Jackson Lake and Stonewall Resort provide the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway,” Ludwig said.
