A Swim Stroke Refinement Camp will take place from Monday, July 13, through Friday, July 17, at the Marshall Recreation Center Indoor Pool. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon daily.
Participants will be divided into two groups based on their level and experience in the water. They will focus on the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
Swimmers at a level 5 or 6 who are able to swim 50 yards or more in all of the four strokes will be placed in the group labeled “Flying Fish.” This group will focus on reviewing and fine tuning their stroke technique and efficiency in the water. They will learn new skills to incorporate into their workouts.
Swimmers at a level 3 or 4 in their development who are able to swim at least 15 yards of freestyle and breaststroke will be added to the “Minnows” group. Minnows will learn and develop stroke mechanics and will also learn new skills through various drills.
Chelsea Clark, graduate assistant of aquatics at the rec center, has been instrumental in organizing this special opportunity. “This is the perfect camp for all levels of swimmers who are already – or are thinking of – swimming competitively.”
To register for the camp, please contact the recreation center at 304-696-4732, or visit the website at www.marshallcampusrec.com. The camp price is $60 for members and $75 for non-members.
