The West Virginia Division of Forestry invites the public to tour two areas at Cabwaylingo State Forest where timber harvests have been prescribed. The tours will take place Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016.

A tour of the area near Tick Ridge in the Moses Fork drainage will start at 10 a.m. A tour of a project north of the old fire tower in the north central area of the forest in the Twelve Pole Creek drainage will begin at 1 p.m. Both tours will start at the Cabwaylingo State Forest office.

The tours will involve a 0.5 to 1 mile hike on uneven ground in the woods with hills along the tour path. Hikers are advised to bring proper footwear and clothing, snacks and water.

The event provides an opportunity for members of the public to learn firsthand about Forestry management plans for timber harvests prescribed to provide more diverse wildlife habitat and forest growth potential. Participants may also provide written input.

For more information about the tour or to register, contact Travis Miller at (304) 545-9015 or email Travis.M.Miller@wv.gov. Participants must notify Miller by noon Monday, Oct. 3, for planning purposes.
