The Health Plan (THP), a West Virginia-based health maintenance organization headquartered in Wheeling, was recognized by Project BEST for excellence in construction of their new corporate headquarters in downtown Wheeling. The Excellence in Construction Project of the Year award is presented to the best construction project utilizing union labor designed and built in the tri-state area. The Health Plan received this award on March 28 at the Construction Industry Evening of Excellence.
The Health Plan was one of four projects considered for the award honoring Project BEST member companies who exhibit innovation, expertise and quality project management in the execution of a construction. The project was brought to fruition by Victor Greco, Principal Architect of the Mills Group, along with ADS Engineers, Wallace Pancher, and the City of Wheeling.
President & CEO, James Pennington said, “We’re proud to receive this award not just on behalf of The Health Plan, but the City of Wheeling. Being a part of Wheeling’s downtown redevelopment was a strategic decision on our part to be a positive force in the community. Since moving to Wheeling, we’ve had the chance to lead by example by showing that downtown can be a destination and is rich with opportunity.”
The Health Plan’s $16 million, 53,000-square-foot, four-story corporate headquarters was downtown Wheeling’s first privately-funded construction project in 30 years. It currently houses over 400 employees. Since relocating its headquarters to Wheeling, WV, The Health Plan has sought to enhance the downtown atmosphere for the entire community through a number of strategic partnerships and initiatives.
