The Greenbrier Valley Theatre at 1038 Washington Street East will present Puccini’s “Tosca” on November 23 transmitted live from the Met stage in New York City. The performance begins at 1 p.m.
The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of live high-definition cinema simulcasts is in its 18th season. The November 23 showing features the first-ever Met Live in HD transmission of Puccini’s “Tosca,” featuring Lise Davidsen as she continues to explore the full range of Italian and German dramatic repertoire.
Following a string of acclaimed Live in HD performances, Davidsen, a renowned Norwegian soprano, stars in the title role for the first time at the Met. Joining the distinguished cast is tenor Freddie De Tommaso in his highly anticipated company debut as Cavaradossi and baritone Quinn Kelsey, who makes a Met role debut as Scarpia. Bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi returns as the Sacristan, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Met’s Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer music director, takes the podium to conduct Met veteran David McVicar’s production.
“From its beginnings, The Met: Live in HD was created to connect the Met to a global audience,” says Peter Gelb, the Met’s Maria Manetti Shrem general manager. “We’re glad to see audiences around the world beginning to return to cinemas in larger numbers since the end of the pandemic.”
The 2024–25 Live in HD season continues with Verdi’s “Aida” on January 25, Beethoven’s “Fidelio” on March 15, Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” on April 26, Strauss’s “Salome” on May 17 and Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” on June 1.
