Curious about the housing market needs of Downtown Charleston?
The Charleston Area Alliance, along with Bowen National Research, will present Think Tank 24, a community forum outlining results from a recently-completed residential feasibility study which assessed the current downtown housing market and its potential for future growth. Patrick Bowen, president of Bowen National Research, will share the findings of the report that analyzes the state of housing supply, housing affordability issues and downtown Charleston’s ability to meet projected housing demand. The analysis will highlight the demand for rental and/or owner-occupied homes and provide an inventory of available housing development sites. The assessment data will help the Alliance and the City of Charleston in recruitment of developers to produce market rate and mixed- use housing. After the presentation, there will be a question and answer session.
Bowen has prepared and supervised thousands of market feasibility studies for all types of real estate products, many in West Virginia. He has conducted numerous housing needs assessments and provided consulting services to city, county and state development entities as it relates to residential development.
The need for a downtown housing feasibility study stems from the recently-completed Imagine Charleston Downtown Charleston Redevelopment Plan which provides the framework for creating a sustainable downtown. Outlined in the plan is a vision for downtown livability through improvement to the quality of public spaces and the perception of safety while incentivizing investment toward renovated and new housing development. The study was funded by a grant from the West Virginia Community Participation Program.
