Together We Can Knock Out Breast Cancer is the theme for University Healthcare’s upcoming discount mammogram clinics to be held in October at both Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg and Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson.
These special 3D tomo digital mammography clinics will be held each Saturday in October in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Berkeley Medical Center will offer the clinics from 8 am until 3:30 pm at the Women’s Imaging Center in the Tennessee Avenue Medical Office Building (MOB3). Jefferson Medical Center will offer clinics from 8 am until 3:00 pm at the Women’s Imaging Center across the street from the hospital’s main entrance.
Screening mammograms will be offered at a discounted community service fee of $60 (cash, check or credit card only) which includes the test and the interpretation by a radiologist. University Healthcare’s discounted mammogram program is open to anyone age 35 and older.
Although a physician’s order is not required to participate in the mammogram clinics, any patients without a physician will be assigned a physician to receive the test results. All patients participating in the screening mammogram clinics must register in advance.
To schedule a screening mammogram at Berkeley Medical Center, phone the community wide scheduling department at 304.264.1297. To schedule a screening mammogram at Jefferson Medical Center, phone the community wide scheduling department at 304.724.5647.
In 2011, Jefferson Medical Center was the first hospital in West Virginia and one of the few in the United States to offer 3D breast tomosynthesis (tomo) for breast cancer screening. This state-of-the-art screening and diagnostic technology allows physicians to examine breast tissue one layer at a time to help find breast cancer at its earliest stages. Berkeley Medical Center added a 3D tomo mammography service in 2013.
