The Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau is recruiting volunteers to assist with the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships May 12-19. The Vandalia Wealth Volunteer Program trains volunteers as course marshals who are essential for crowd monitoring along race routes and helping ensure the safety of cyclists and spectators. Course marshals also act as ambassadors to spectators regarding event details.
Duties include:
- Directing the riders in the correct direction.
- Assisting police with road closures.
- Keeping public vehicles from entering the course when the race is passing.
- Keeping spectators, children, pets and other hazards off the course.
The race marshal training course will be available virtually through Zoom starting at 6:30 pm, Thursday, May 9. Link information will be provided upon registration.
Additional information:
- Volunteers receive a whistle and a USA Cycling branded volunteer shirt.
- All shifts will be provided with a meal and water throughout the day.
- All shifts are outdoors. It is recommended to bring a lawn chair, water and sun protection.
- Shifts and posts will be assigned with Course Marshal Packet.
