West Virginia American Water announces that applications are now being accepted for the company’s sixth annual Bottle Filling Station Program.
“As West Virginia’s leading water service provider, we’re proud to be at the forefront of educating citizens on the benefits of drinking tap water and ways to reduce single-use plastics,” says Robert Burton, president of West Virginia American Water. “This initiative is a continuation and expansion of our sustainability efforts that have already been implemented at West Virginia International Yeager Airport, as well as more than 100 additional locations, promoting hydration at schools, parks, hospitals and community centers across West Virginia.”
West Virginia American Water spearheaded this program to promote environmental stewardship and reduce single-use plastic waste in communities throughout West Virginia. Since the program first launched five years ago, the company has provided over 120 bottle filling stations to organizations, government and public buildings, parks and schools across the state. St. Mary’s Medical Center, a member of the Marshall Health Network and the largest medical facility in Huntington, was one of last year’s recipients.
“The MHN Foundations are grateful to West Virginia American Water for providing water bottle filling stations to St. Mary’s Medical Center for our main campus, Center for Education and the St. Mary’s Center,” says Kristi Arrowood, executive director of MHN Foundations. “These resources will make healthier choices more accessible and convenient for our staff, students, visitors and patients.”
West Virginia American Water’s Bottle Filling Station Program will provide bottle filling stations to public facilities within the company’s designated service areas. Awarded organizations will be responsible for the installation of the unit and other associated costs.
To qualify, the applicant must be a nonprofit organization or local government entity, and the facility in which the bottle filling station would be located must be open to the public. The facility must also be located within West Virginia American Water’s service territory. Individuals are not eligible to receive bottle filling stations.
Additional information and the application can be found on the Bottle Filling Station Program page of the company’s website. Applications must be emailed or postmarked by Monday, September 16, 2024. Recipients will be notified in October.
